Central: New affordable housing and homeownership opps will replace vacant lots in Southwest Fresno

By ONME Newswire

FRESNO, Calif. - With assistance from Self-Help Enterprises, a leading nonprofit for community development, vacant lots in Southwest Fresno will soon see the construction of high-quality affordable homes.

Located at the corner of E. Florence Avenue and S. Walnut Avenue, the future homes will be conveniently situated across from Computech Middle School and Edison High School.

The site is located two blocks away from the future FCC West Fresno CTC Campus, the future United Health Center, and served by FAX Route 38.

“We are pleased to partner with the Housing Successor Agency of the City of Fresno and the City of Fresno to bring this much-needed homeownership opportunity to Southwest Fresno,” said Tom Collishaw. “This area has lacked housing options for many years, and we are proud to be able to bring this homeownership opportunity.”

When complete, the development will help with the demand for affordable housing in South Fresno and provide much-needed housing options for vulnerable residents.

“The increase in the cost of living, and in a region where one must make three times the minimum wage to afford rent, homeownership is out of reach for many low-income families. It is our responsibility as City leaders and stakeholders to foster economic stability and opportunities for longtime residents of underinvested communities.” - Councilmember Miguel Arias.
