A few of these students have earned paid position onto KOFP Radio's staff after four months of strenuous training in the media arts

By ONME Newswire

FRESNO--Last week's certificate ceremony at the KOFP Radio Station celebrated the accomplishments of student interns receiving a certificate for completing KOFP Radio's extensive broadcasters' program.

Funded for two years initially by T-Mobile ($260,000.00), with follow-up funding from the Fresno Arts Council Measure P Grant ($180,000.00,) students in the intensive four-month media arts training program learned the fast-track to media engineering, media reporting basics, thanks to ONME News, deejaying, and an introduction to STEM careers, thanks to the partnership with Fresno State. The first year of the program started roughly with around 20 students July 9, 2024; only three were able to complete it all the way through to the end to the certificate ceremony October 24, 2024.

Ms. Kehaja Bolden, Mr. Jalen Brown, and Mr. Junior are the three students who received their certificates and scholarship stipends from $300.00 to $500.00. Two of the students are eligible by age to work right away at KOFP Radio starting in 2025.

The KOFP Radio Media & Community Collaboration Project is a combined effort of Black media entities, local colleges, corporations, community leaders, local government entities, educators and community organizations who have come together for a common cause, the Fresno-based radio station is striving to create a strong legacy for the next generation while keeping the community informed.  In this project, the media is the conduit to bring all the elements together because the project is centered around providing career opportunities for local Black youth and young adults, ages 12 – 20.

The KOFP Radio Media & Community Collaboration Project centers on key career areas that are lacking Black workers and or skill sets:  STEM (science, technology, engineering, and mathematics), public advocacy, and media.

KOFP Radio, under parent organization, Helping Others Pursue Excellence (H.O.P.E.,) is located at the Vision View Campus and relaunched June 8, 2024, under new management, Info Media Distribution.
