In this episode of News Too Real: Where Are we With Police Relations and Our Black Males in California, producer host, Julia Dudley Najieb with Lennice Najieb review the responses and online Tweets after Minneapolisex-police officer, Derek Chauvin was found guilty for the murder of George Floyd last spring.
Chauvin, was convicted Tuesday, April 20, 2021 for the murder and manslaughter of George Floyd, a Black man, whom he pinned to the pavement with his knee on the back of Floyd's neck for 9 minutes and 29 seconds.
Chauvin was found guilty on all charges: second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.
The jury consisted of six white people and six Black or multiracial people; they completed 11 hrs. of deliberation within two days.
In a statement from Dr. Shirley N. Weber, who wasnominated to serve as California Secretary of State by Governor Gavin Newsom on December 22, 2020 and sworn into office on January 29, 2021, she said that she is relieved by the today's decision; however, this is just a step in the right direction where there is more to be done.
Dudley Najieb also reviews the George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021 recently passed by the Democrats in the House, awaiting committee.
